POLITICS AND LAW ATAR
The Politics and Law ATAR course provides a study of the processes of decision-making concerning society’s collective future. It aims to develop the knowledge of the principles, structures, institutions and processes of political and legal systems primarily in Australia. It brings together the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government to demonstrate how society is governed and how each branch of government is held to account. It examines the democratic principles practised in Australia and makes comparisons with other political and legal systems.
COMPUTER SCIENCE ATAR
Technology of the future is being developed TODAY, so to prepare our students for an exciting future career, the Computer Science ATAR Course explores the fundamental principles, concepts and skills within the field of computing and programming! Students learn how to diagnose and solve problems which require an understanding of the building blocks of computing. This course provides students with the practical and technical skills that equip them to function effectively in a world where these attributes are vital for employability and daily life in a technological society.

GENERAL - Children, Family and the Community
The Children, Family and the Community General course focuses on factors that influence human development and the wellbeing of individuals, families and communities.
Students explore the health of individuals and communities and the protective and preventative strategies that impact on growth and development.
They engage in shared research, examine goal setting, self-management, decision making, communication and cooperation skills when creating products, services or systems that will assist individuals, families and communities to achieve their needs and wants.

The focus of this course is to provide skills and knowledge, in particular software support to employees in an office environment.

Operate application software packages
Operate a digital media technology package
Use social media tools for collaboration and engagement

A hands on qualification that develops creative and practical production skills, and enable students to work effectively in contemporary screen and media industries.
Students learn media skills including the basics of picture composition and camera technique, industry specialised vision and sound editing. The qualification introduces students to social media campaign management and content creation for the fast growing social media sector.
Working out of the newly built Dandjoo Performing Arts Centre, students will take a project based approach to learning industry standard tools and skills to kickstart their career in the Creative Industries.

Students learn about major psychological theories, studies and models, and conduct scientific investigations. Students develop skills to apply their psychological knowledge to explain thoughts, feelings and behaviours in the everyday world. Students apply the principles of scientific inquiry and ethical guidelines as they analyse data used to examine phenomena, such as developmental stages, memory, attention, attitudes, personality and social influence. An understanding of psychology is very useful, both to individuals and those assisting us to improve ourselves and our relationships, and to society as a whole.

Girrawheen SHS
Certificate II in Apparel, Fashion and Textiles.
The Girrawheen SHS Certificate II in Apparel, Fashion and Textiles is a two-year, one day a week course available to Year 11 students interested in pursuing a career in the fashion design industry. The course is nationally recognised and enables students to begin their study pathway in fashion design with a focus on Indigenous culture and textile design. The course combines creativity with practical skills, as well as providing the building blocks to further your studies in fashion, such as garment design, textile development, screen printing and fashion drawing. The certificate leads to post school study pathways including Certificate III in Design Fundamentals and Diploma of Applied Fashion Design and Merchandising. In this exciting and hands on course, students learn extensive foundation skills that are necessary for employment in the fashion industry. This course has a broad range of outcomes including garment upcycling, sewing, styling and screen printing. Students design and make their own fashion products including accessories and garments. The incorporation of units that focus on contemporary Indigenous fashion and textile design make this pathway an exceptional choice for students interested in diverse design practices. |
